Conveniently located mid way between Adelaide and Melbourne, Mount Gambier is a regional hub servicing communities of South East South Australia and South Western Victoria. The area has a very proud brass band history, with historical connections between neighbouring bands both intrastate and interstate.

History
The Mount Gambier City Band (MGCB) has been operating continuously since 1895, but has origins dating back as far as the 1850’s when colonial military bands and travelling German Saxhorn Bands visited the region and entertained locals at social and ceremonial events.
Community
South East South Australia boasts very supportive communities with the Mount Gambier City Council and the District Council of Grant providing strong support for the MGCB band and its activities.
The City of Mount Gambier hosts the annual Blue Lake Brass Festival each November, organized by the Lion’s Club of Mount Gambier. Participation in the annual WIN TV Christmas Parade is a feature event for visiting competition bands.

In a music loving community, Mount Gambier City Band enjoys connections with a wide variety of groups including the Mount Gambier City Concert Band which was formed under the City Band umbrella in 2010, and the James Morrison Academy of Music @ UniSA.

Activities
The MGCB is proud to be affiliated with the South Australian Band Association and supports efforts to promote and strengthen the community band movement locally, statewide and nationally.
Besides regular rehearsal and performance, the band actively seeks player skill and knowledge development opportunities through workshops and by maintaining connections within the wider music community.
MGCB values the contribution it makes to the community and appreciates the efforts of its members.
The MGCB strives for a healthy, fun loving and family oriented social atmosphere for members of all ages.
Rehearsal Times
The MGCB rehearses weekly on a Wednesday night in its own custom built band hall. Rehearsals commence at 7.30pm SHARP. We welcome and encourage new, existing and visiting players and non-players to our band and committee.

The band also auspices the following musical groups:
Mount Gambier City Concert Band rehearsing each Monday night
Limestone Coast Symphony Orchestra rehearsing each Tuesday night in term 2
New Learners Welcome
The MGCB encourages learners of any age or level of experience to join the family friendly band. Instruments and tuition are provided.
The band has a junior ensemble named the Waawor Band. Waawor being the local Boandik Language name for the Blue Lake.
Child Protection
The MGCB provides a Child Safe Environment and does not tolerate child abuse.
The MGCB believes every person has the right to be treated with respect and to be safe and protected from abuse.
Finances
As a volunteer organisation, the MGCB relies financially on donations, payments for performance, general fundraising activities and membership subscriptions.
Hall Hire
The MGCB also hires its band hall for functions, fundraisers and travelling businesses. Rates are very competitive and the hall contains all the necessary facilities including an industrial sized kitchen, stage, heating and generous car parking. Band Hall located at 70 Pick Avenue, Mount Gambier.
