Review
A very successful initiative of the SA Band Association was held last week at Prince Alfred College; from Wed - Sat night.
Over 80 musicians participated in workshops and band rehearsals under the batons of Mr Barrie Gott ; MD of the Qld Pops Orchestra and our own Dr Kevin Cameron.
Mr Barrie Gott conducting at the band camp
Professional tutors worked with both the Brass and Concert band players and this aspect of the band camp was very effective for players learning the more difficult sections of the repertoires.
The Concert on the sat night was well attended even though the weather was rather cold.
There were some sensational moments in the program where one could feel the emotions, the thoughts which the composer and the conductors intended to convey.
It was a privilege for the participants, tutors and conductors to present such a wonderful performance.
Special thanks to
* ARTS SA for the grant for the event * Prince Alfred College for the generous donation of the venue, percussion equipment & refreshments * K & N Spring Gully Brass for percussion equipment/ stands * St John Ambulance Band for trailer * Hahndorf Town Band for percussion equipment * Band of the SA Police for tutors & music * Unley Concert Band players & committee for support * Bill Broughton, Beth Lion (E Type Jazz) & Mark C Smith (Police Rangers) for tutoring * SABA committee members for a wide range of tasks & support * "Lunch on the Parade" for sensational catering
This project was a challenge and proved to be well worth the effort. The banding fraternity is growing and the friendships are developing throughout the state via events such as this.
