INFORMATION ABOUT THE BAND as at February 2008

THE BAND
The Band was formed in June 1936 as the City of Adelaide Municipal Band by members of the 43/48th Battalion and the former Glenelg Municipal Band. In February 1940, the Adelaide City Council changed the name to The City of Adelaide Concert Band and it was given the responsibility of providing free concerts for citizens. Somewhere thereafter, the Band became a Brass Band and its name changed to The City of Adelaide Band . It existed in this form until the mid 1998 when, partly because of a lack of Brass musicians, it reverted back to a Concert Band and changed its name accordingly back to what it was in the 1940's.

The City of Adelaide Concert Band meets in the German Club on Thursday evenings 7.30 -9:30 pm with a short break half way through. Our players range in both musical ability and age. Being a Community Band, we promote the playing of various musical styles in a relaxed and friendly environment, with minimal requirements for membership entry or exit.

PUBLIC PERFORMANCES
We mostly play within the City of Adelaide Council area, about once a month, usually on Sunday afternoons.

COMMUNICATION
From time to time you will receive information and newsletters by email (or hard copy if you have no email contact). We also make general announcements at the commencement of rehearsals. You may phone the Secretary or the President, the numbers of which are at the top of this information sheet. Each musician is allocated a pigeon-hole for the dissemination of sheet music and printed notices.

SOCIAL GATHERINGS
We like to promote socialisation amongst members so from time to time, especially after performances, be prepared for drinks or pub meals or BBQ’s – family members and friends are welcome. Occasionally we also have fund-raising functions.
