The prize will be announced at the conclusion of the State Band Championships held on Saturday August 16. Details are outlined below, so get your fellow bandies organised and make sure it is your band that gets the top spot on the shield!

All competitors will be awarded a point for participation. In addition the first, second, and third placed soloists in all sections will receive an additional 5, 4 and 3 points respectively.
Party events

2008 SABA COMPETITIONS
The SA Band Association is pleased to announce adjudicators for its 2008 events.
The Hahndorf Band Festival features a street march and entertainment contest for up to 5 brass bands. The adjudicator for 2008 will be Mr David Gardiner, Principal Trombone of the Band of the South Australia Police and Musical Director of the Tea Tree Gully Redbacks.
The SA State Solo Championships will be held at Pembroke School on the 14-15 June. Adjudicator for the Senior competition will be Mr David Polain, Musical Director of the Tanunda Town Band. Mr Mark C. Smith, Conductor of the SA Police Rangers Band, will preside over the Junior competition.
For the State Championships on Saturday 16 August two adjudicators will be entrusted with the crucial decision-making in all brass and concert grades. Mr Peter Walmsley OAM and Mr Colin Archibald will be in the box.
There will be a number of important changes to the 2008 SABA Band Championships and the 2008 Solo Championships:
The State Championships will be held at Elder Hall. This is a wonderful professional venue that will present bands in the best possible light, whilst being in a central location for bands and audience members alike.
- Bands will play a programme of three works for the Championship in each grade. The Major Work, appropriate for grade, will be Own Choice.
- Brass and Concert bands will contest the Championships on the same day. The A Grade Brass and A Grade Concert sections will be presented as an evening Gala Concert occasion
- Rules and sections for the Solo Championships have been completely revised.
- The Solo Championships will include ensemble sections – duets, trios, quartets, and quintets in both the Junior and Senior Championships.
- There will be a special Band Aggregate Prize across the Solo and Ensemble Championships, based on participation and places awarded. This has been introduced as an additional incentive for our members to develop confidence and performance skills outside the band setting.
The State Band Championships and the State Solo Championships are very important events on the banding calendar in South Australia. I am looking forward to seeing our bands take every opportunity to enhance the standard and profile of live community music in this state. I am also hoping that we will welcome friends and colleagues from interstate to our 2008 championships, said SABA President Kevin Cameron.
